Baldwin County

Many do not know that Baldwin County is ten years older than the entire state of Alabama. It remains Alabama’s oldest and biggest county, covering over 1600 square miles (about the area of Rhode Island). On December 21st, 1819, Baldwin County was organized at the County Seat of Macintosh Bluff as it was appointed to fall within Mississippi territory. After Alabama’s admission to the Union in 1819, Baldwin County was a footnote in the state, being one of only two counties in Alabama to border the Gulf of Mexico. Due to the county’s age, many territorial shifts have occurred throughout the events of the Revolutionary War and Civil War.  

Today, Baldwin County is home to the cities of Daphne, Fairhope, and Foley, just to name a few. The county has become one of the biggest in Alabama, as its beaches and parks are some of the most beautiful in the state. With a population of almost 200,000 people, the county is only growing larger with its heavy appeal. Many amazing public and private schools have risen in the county.
